EARTH - Though this symbol is not often used in magickal work, its meaning should not be overlooked. Our global home is often represented with a cross circumscribed by a circle: matter surrounded by spirit.

SUN - The symbol for the sun is a circle with a dot in the center. It is an image of spiritual wholeness, with a focal point for the meaning of life. The sun rules the sign of Leo.

MOON - The moon's symbol is usually drawn like a new moon crescent. Made with two curves, it represents our emotional energies, how two souls might interact. Cancer is the sign associated with the moon.

VENUS - This symbol has also become universally known to represent female energy. A cross with a circle at the top, it represents the rise of spirit over matter. Venus rules both Taurus and Libra.

MARS - Also used to represent male energy, a circle with an arrow pointing upward indicates matter in supremacy over spirit. Aries and Scorpio are ruled by this planet's energies.

MERCURY - The planet of intellect. Its glyph is like the one for Venus, but capped by an upward pointing crescent. Body, mind and spirit are united, but reason is dominant. Gemini and Virgo fall under this planet's energies.

JUPITER - Looking like the number 4, this symbol illustrates the mind's dominance over matter, belief, so necessary for all magick to work successfully. The largest plant rules Sagittarius and Pisces.

SATURN - The mirror opposite of Jupiter's symbol, upside down with a longer curve, the ringed planet's symbol represents abstract ideas taking physical form. Mental notions are brought down to earth. Capricorn and Aquarius fall under Saturn's rule.

CHIRON - This small planet orbits between Saturn and Uranus. With an oval topped by what looks like a small k, its symbol represents ability to use our powers to benefit others. Chiron represents ability to help, heal and teach others, and is related to the sign of Sagittarius.

CERES - One of the major asteroids, it represents ability to direct energy toward instinctive, reproductive or creative goals. Its symbol is a cross topped by a backwards letter C.

PALLAS - It represents directing energy away from emotional toward mental pursuits. The symbol is a cross topped with a diamond.

JUNO - The opposite of ego, it signifies ability to release power for the good of a relationship. Its symbol is a cross topped with an asterisk or the Venus symbol with a block cap on top.

VESTA - The capacity to direct creative energy into personal or spiritual goals. Its symbol looks like a rectangle with either two three-prong forks or a sea gull shape on top.
